    CGT L’ATLANTIQUE FIRE DISASTER 1933 FRENCH “L’ILLUSTRATION” MAGAZINE OCEAN LINER
    This is the January 14, 1933 issue of the French periodical “L’Illustration” with the cover feature being the destruction of the French Line’s luxury liner L’Atlantique by fire on January 4 of that year. The large format, multipage, richly illustrated article provides an in-depth account of the disaster (in French) from outbreak to rescue and salvage operations. The ominous and moody cover photo is a haunting image, supplemented inside with arresting aerial images of the ship on fire plus images of the aftermath and rescue efforts, along with photos of the ship’s interiors as they were before the disaster, among other things.
    Other articles in this issue deal with politics of the day, a lengthy writeup on some interesting petroglyphs in Libya, an overview of the transformation of Holland’s Zuider Zee into the IJsselmeer, and a look into the behind-the-scenes work in the maintenance of the Paris Metro system, among lots of other topics and cool ads.
    The approx. 11” x 15” magazine is in good condition for nearly 90 years old; cover intact, some signs of age, a few slight stains on the cover and a little rust on the binding staples.
