This is a truly awesome totally hand made by a jeweler a  long time ago he was inspired with the world and his imagination.
The whole brooch is carefully made including the C-Clasp .
Brass makes up the setting .
It's a design of textured leaves ,,scrolls  ,cut aways and very sturdy .
It was ment to hold a heavy cloth sash in place .
The openings would enhance the look of the sash .
Thereby working together for beauty .
The lovely purple glass is hand faceted over a wheel too.
I have not cleaned this brooch .
I've left that for you to do if you choose.
