Description
Item is sold in the condition shown, and my description is based on additional findings and research to place the item in the location of the events listed below. This item would have been written by troops for troops, for means of communication of current affairs, world and back at home.I wanted to share a little bit of what I know of this item, so I could understand the origin, details, time and situation this man must have been through. I am amazed of his life, the things he endured during this time of conflict; expecting a baby, fighting in a war, separated from his family and friends, looking for explosive ordnance in the ocean. Amazing and not forgotten, Lt. Archer., USNR.
These documents where retrieved from several other documents, that lead me to believe that they where originally received by a Naval Officer attached to the 14th Naval District, Pearl Harbor, HI., in 1944; serving as an enlisted service member trained to be a underwater ordnance detecting personal, trained at Fishers Island, NY. He was sent to the Efate Island for temporary duty, could have been on the U.S.S Pennsylvania before she was decommission in 1946. As she was known to be in the area at the time of his arrival to the island.
I am assuming his job, among others was to clear the Havannah Port and Vila Port, during this time the Island was home to a U.S. Military presents. Among with other documents I have, I have Radio Press Releases that where handed out to the service members during the day, from Havannah Harbor and Keystone Press News. Those news press releases will be in another listing here on eBay.
